This has left many dancers believing they can't dance polska at all. Some people might also find the dance it a bit boring once the basic turn is mastered. Yet the polska is much more than this famous turn, with various figures giving a wide range of possible movements and creativity. We will get into variations of different regions, notably springlek and Värmland figures, and even look at several Norwegian pols variants, even spying a few tricks from the various springar promenades and turns. The not-enough known yet great bakmes figure might be, if desired, the star of the show.\n\nNote : We will NOT work on the polska turn in this workshop (but on everything else).\n\n\nNiveau\nYou are a dancer with a solid experience of various folk dances, not necessarily Scandinavian, and no need for previous polska experience (but you'll learn new things even if you can dance the basic polska perfectly already).\n\n\nOver de Docent\nEmelie Waldken has fallen hard for Scandinavian folk music and dances upon discovery and nowadays calls Sweden home. Throughout the years, she has taught various Nordic dances accross Europe, from very well-known schottis and polska to obscure menuett and, of course, halling. She tends to fill her workshops with unexpected metaphors and will often grab her fiddle to provide live music to her exercises. Een internationaal bal deze keer met topmuzikant Jeroen Laureyssens uit België en een bijzonder trio uit Zweden. Ook deze keer weer een dansworkshop vooraf, gericht op onder andere de Slängpolska en diverse andere Zweedse dansen. Kijk hier voor alle informatie over de workshop.\n\nJeroen Laureyssens is een multi-getalenteerde Belgische diatonische accordeon speler. Hij speelde al op zesjarige leeftijd muziek en komt uit een muzikale familie. Musiceren, bijzondere composities maken en improvisatie zijn een belangrijk onderdeel van zijn muzikale leven. Hij speelt onder andere in Les Frères d’Eeckère, Duo Brabants-Laureyssens, Cosmo en The Quest.\n\nHet Trio Västanvinden (ook wel ‘De Westenwind) speelt groovy trad muziek uit Zweden en andere Noordse landen. De ongebruikelijke mix van instrumenten, namelijk harmonica, klarinet en citer, geeft het trio een uniek, eigen geluid en doet een frisse wind waaien door de traditionele tunes. De sterke connectie tussen traditionele muzike en dans is fundamenteel voor de muzikale benadering van het trio en ze spelen daarom graag live voor dansers. De groep is opgericht aan het Royal College of Music in Stokcholm, waar de leden alledrie hebben gestudeerd. Hun debuutalbum is in oktober 2021 gepresenteerd. \n\nDansworkshop\nVoorafgaand aan het bal zal er ook een dansworkshop zijn, gegeven door Västanvinden zelf. De informatie over deze workshop vind je hier.\n\n\nHet programma voor het bal\n17.00: Picknick\n18.00: Dansuitleg\n19.00: Bal!\n23.00: Einde\n\nDansuitleg\nDe dansuitleg is bedoeld om weer even in te komen voor als je al een poosje niet gedanst hebt, of als je de eerste pasjes alvast onder de knie wil krijgen. Iedereen is uiteraard welkom om mee te dansen.\n\nPicknick\nEr staat ook een picknick gepland. Breng daarvoor voor jezelf (en één of twee anderen) wat lekkers te eten mee, wat op één grote tafel wordt verzameld, zodat we met z’n allen een heerlijke maaltijd zullen hebben. Het is handig om eigen bord en bestek mee te nemen, dat is niet aanwezig op de locatie zelf.\n\nLocatie\nHet is de tweede keer dat we een bal geven in het Maaspodium in Rotterdam. Deze locatie vind je aan de Sint-Jobsweg 3 in Rotterdam. Er is een mooie danszaal en een gezellige bar en foyer waar behalve dansen ook wat bijgekomen en gekletst kan worden. Metrostation Coolhaven is op een kleine 10-15 minuten lopen afstand, er stopt ook een tram vlakbij. Op zondag is voor zover bekend straatparkeren gratis. Er is ook een parkeergarage vlakbij. Tessel en Xander een introductie in de Valdresspringar, een dans uit Noorwegen. Voor de leiders betekent dat koppige bokkensprongen en voor de volgers magnifiek draaiwerk! Samen leer je het beginsel van een dans die veel inspiratie biedt voor meer gebruikelijke parade dansen… Het is verstandig om gladde schoenen mee te nemen, zeker voor de volgers. Mocht je minder willen of kunnen draaien, maak je geen zorgen! Tessel en Xander leren je ook een draaiarmere variatie aan.\n\nProgramma\n18.30 Gezamenlijk koken en eten\n19.30: Start socialles\n20.30: Einde socialles, begin vrij dansen\n21.30: Einde\n\nSocialles\nHet concept van een socialles is dat er het eerste uur een les of workshop wordt gegeven door een enthousiaste danser of docent over een specifieke dans of thema en dat in de 1,5 uur daarna de tijd is om vrij te dansen op cdmuziek. Ze zorgen voor een wonderlijk samenspel van Scandinavische en Occitaanse muziek: ze laten onze voeten dansen dankzij groovy muziek met grenzeloze invloeden, een frisse smaak van Zweden en de sterke smaak van Occitaanse kaas. Op het menu staan de gebruikelijke balfolkdansen, plús rondeau, congo, branle, polska, slängpolska, halling en meer!\n\nL’Air Inconnu is Fabien Bucher (gitaar, mandoline, zang), Dani Velasco (viool, zang) en Sylvain Pool (accordeon, gitaar, kick, zang). De band brengt ons muzikale creaties gebaseerd op hedendaagse en traditionele dans, nieuwsgierige oren, en dieren en planten, zowel wild als getemd. Hun composities en arrangementen van traditionele thema's worden geïnspireerd door emoties en sensaties tijdens de bals en festivals: het plezier van de ontmoeting, intieme poëzie, de aanstekelijkheid van muziek, lichaamsenergie en -beweging, collectieve trans, …. Wij verheugen ons immens op dit trio, dat van elk bal een fantastisch feestje weet te maken.\n\nBen je een nieuwe danser? Om 15:00 beginnen wij met een uurtje dansuitleg!
