Workshopbeschrijving
The polska turn is quite a difficult beast to tame. This has left many dancers believing they can't dance polska at all. Some people might also find the dance it a bit boring once the basic turn is mastered. Yet the polska is much more than this famous turn, with various figures giving a wide range of possible movements and creativity. We will get into variations of different regions, notably springlek and Värmland figures, and even look at several Norwegian pols variants, even spying a few tricks from the various springar promenades and turns. The not-enough known yet great bakmes figure might be, if desired, the star of the show.

Note : We will NOT work on the polska turn in this workshop (but on everything else).


Niveau
You are a dancer with a solid experience of various folk dances, not necessarily Scandinavian, and no need for previous polska experience (but you'll learn new things even if you can dance the basic polska perfectly already).


Over de Docent
Emelie Waldken has fallen hard for Scandinavian folk music and dances upon discovery and nowadays calls Sweden home. Throughout the years, she has taught various Nordic dances accross Europe, from very well-known schottis and polska to obscure menuett and, of course, halling. She tends to fill her workshops with unexpected metaphors and will often grab her fiddle to provide live music to her exercises. Lestijden
Elke workshop is 2.5 uur lang. Het programma:
19:00 – deuren open
19:15 – de les begint
21:45 – einde les
22:00 – sluiting.


Locatie & Deurbeleid
De lessen en workshops vinden plaats in de Moira, een fijne zaal in het centrum van Utrecht. Het adres is Wolvenstraat 10 (aan het einde van de Plompetorengracht). Je moet de blauwe deur hebben aan de rechterkant. Dan kom je via de trap naar beneden in de zaal.

De deur van de Moira-zaal mag niet zonder toezicht open blijven staan. Tussen 19:00 en 19:15 staat er dus iemand van de organisatie bij de deur om iedereen binnen te laten. Daarna gaat de deur dicht.

Ben je onverhoopt te laat? Gebruik het 06-nummer bellen dat op de deur hangt (geef ons wel eerst even de tijd om de trap op te lopen ).


Prijzen en Aanmelden
De kosten voor deelname van één workshop zijn:
Normaaltarief €23,-
Fair-Trade tarief €25,- (Als je de eerlijke prijs wil betalen)
Kortingstarief €19,- (Als je weinig te besteden hebt).

Je betaalt contant voor je reservering aan het begin van de workshop.

Let op! Als je inschrijft, reserveren we een plekje voor je en gaan we er ook van uit dat je komt. Inschrijven is dus niet vrijblijvend. Als je je inschrijft en je je minder dan een week voor de workshop weer afmeldt, vragen we een administratieve bijdrage. Als je je minder dan drie dagen voor de workshop afmeldt, betaal je een deel van het lesgeld, tenzij je iemand vindt die je kaartje overneemt. Op zaterdag 1 oktober gaan de voetjes van de vloer met een bal in Rotterdam in het Maaspodium. Een internationaal bal deze keer met topmuzikant Jeroen Laureyssens uit België en een bijzonder trio uit Zweden. Ook deze keer weer een dansworkshop vooraf, gericht op onder andere de Slängpolska en diverse andere Zweedse dansen. Kijk hier voor alle informatie over de workshop.

Jeroen Laureyssens is een multi-getalenteerde Belgische diatonische accordeon speler. Hij speelde al op zesjarige leeftijd muziek en komt uit een muzikale familie. Musiceren, bijzondere composities maken en improvisatie zijn een belangrijk onderdeel van zijn muzikale leven. Hij speelt onder andere in Les Frères d’Eeckère, Duo Brabants-Laureyssens, Cosmo en The Quest.

Het Trio Västanvinden (ook wel ‘De Westenwind) speelt groovy trad muziek uit Zweden en andere Noordse landen. De ongebruikelijke mix van instrumenten, namelijk harmonica, klarinet en citer, geeft het trio een uniek, eigen geluid en doet een frisse wind waaien door de traditionele tunes. De sterke connectie tussen traditionele muzike en dans is fundamenteel voor de muzikale benadering van het trio en ze spelen daarom graag live voor dansers. De groep is opgericht aan het Royal College of Music in Stokcholm, waar de leden alledrie hebben gestudeerd. Hun debuutalbum is in oktober 2021 gepresenteerd. 

Dansworkshop
Voorafgaand aan het bal zal er ook een dansworkshop zijn, gegeven door Västanvinden zelf. De informatie over deze workshop vind je hier.

Dansuitleg
De dansuitleg is bedoeld om weer even in te komen voor als je al een poosje niet gedanst hebt, of als je de eerste pasjes alvast onder de knie wil krijgen. Iedereen is uiteraard welkom om mee te dansen.

Picknick
Er staat ook een picknick gepland. Breng daarvoor voor jezelf (en één of twee anderen) wat lekkers te eten mee, wat op één grote tafel wordt verzameld, zodat we met z’n allen een heerlijke maaltijd zullen hebben. Het is handig om eigen bord en bestek mee te nemen, dat is niet aanwezig op de locatie zelf.

Locatie
Het is de tweede keer dat we een bal geven in het Maaspodium in Rotterdam. Deze locatie vind je aan de Sint-Jobsweg 3 in Rotterdam. Er is een mooie danszaal en een gezellige bar en foyer waar behalve dansen ook wat bijgekomen en gekletst kan worden. Metrostation Coolhaven is op een kleine 10-15 minuten lopen afstand, er stopt ook een tram vlakbij. Op zondag is voor zover bekend straatparkeren gratis. Er is ook een parkeergarage vlakbij. Gebruik je eigen favoriete routeplanner om je route te bepalen. Meer informatie is te vinden op de website van het Maaspodium.

Op 21 en 28 november geeft Amber Wever workshops over de Schottis, een dans met dezelfde 19e-eeuwse stam als ‘onze’ Scottish maar één die een andere richting op geëvolueerd is. Iets dat vooral te zien is in dat deze dans afstand maakt! In deze workshops gaan we spelen met ritmes, leren initiëren zonder te leiden, en werken met het groepsgevoel van alle koppels in dezelfde ruimte. En dat natuurlijk terwijl we een stevige basis aanleren van deze hele toffe dans!

Niveau
De workshops zijn toegankelijk voor iedereen: binnen de basis is er ruimte voor individuele verdieping, dus de workshop is interessant voor beginnende dansers én mensen die de schottis al kennen. Wel raden wij met klem aan om beide workshops te volgen; mocht dat écht niet lukken kun je mailen naar balfolkutrecht@gmail.com.

Let op! Als je inschrijft, reserveren we een plekje voor je en gaan we er ook van uit dat je komt. Inschrijven is dus niet vrijblijvend. Als je je inschrijft en je je minder dan een week voor de workshop weer afmeldt, vragen we een administratieve bijdrage. Als je je minder dan drie dagen voor de workshop afmeldt, betaal je een deel van het lesgeld, tenzij je iemand vindt die je kaartje overneemt. Op zondag 27 november a.s. geven wij een workshop waarin we de Hambo gaan aanleren en aandacht besteden aan een aantal basisfiguren uit de Zweedse polskor en gammaldans.

Op 9 en 16 januari geven Amber Wever en Robin van den Brule workshops over polska! Zij hebben hier beiden veel over geleerd tijdens hun dansstudie aan het Eric Sahlström Institut in Tobo, Zweden.

Er zijn natuurlijk meerdere polskor, net zoals er niet maar één bourrée is. In deze workshop gaan we aan de slag met algemene technieken in de polska, die heel goed toepasbaar zijn op de polska zoals 'ie bij balfolk gedanst wordt.

In de workshops gaan we vanuit een Zweeds dansperspectief aan de slag met bewegen, balans, draaien, en uiteindelijk het samen rondkomen. Zo kun je de polska leren dansen zonder geduw of getrek, en weinig duizeligheid: met minder moeite dus!

Niveau
De workshop is zowel geschikt voor beginners die al wat pasjes op de 1 en 3 gewaagd hebben, en mensen die de polska op de balfolkvloer al onder de knie (denken te) hebben. Het helpt altijd om al een beetje bekend te zijn met het muzikale ritme.

Deze donderdag 16 maart is is het socialles nr 258. Deze week geven Tessel en Xander een introductie in de Valdresspringar, een dans uit Noorwegen. Voor de leiders betekent dat koppige bokkensprongen en voor de volgers magnifiek draaiwerk! Samen leer je het beginsel van een dans die veel inspiratie biedt voor meer gebruikelijke parade dansen… Het is verstandig om gladde schoenen mee te nemen, zeker voor de volgers. Mocht je minder willen of kunnen draaien, maak je geen zorgen! Tessel en Xander leren je ook een draaiarmere variatie aan.

Programma
18.30 Gezamenlijk koken en eten

Socialles
Het concept van een socialles is dat er het eerste uur een les of workshop wordt gegeven door een enthousiaste danser of docent over een specifieke dans of thema en dat in de 1,5 uur daarna de tijd is om vrij te dansen op cdmuziek. Uiteraard is er ook volop gelegenheid om te socialisen tijdens het deel vrij dansen.

Gezamenlijk eten
Vooraf mee-eten is ook mogelijk. Vanaf 18.30 uur ben je welkom in de keuken van De Banier, waarop er een warme maaltijd gekookt en gegeten wordt tot om 19.30 uur de socialles begint. Meehelpen met koken mag en kan natuurlijk. Mee-eten kost 3 euro per persoon, per keer, cash te betalen. Vooraf doorgeven dat je mee-eet is wel handig, dat kan het beste via balfolkzuidholland@gmail.com, tot uiterlijk woensdag 17.00 uur. Geef dan ook direct allergieën of intoleranties door, dan houden we daar rekening mee.

Locatie
Je kunt ons vinden bij De Banier, gevestigd op Banierstraat 1, in Rotterdam. Deze locatie is op ongeveer tien minuten lopen vanaf Centraal Station Rotterdam. Parkeren in de directe omgeving is betaald tot 23.00 uur ‘s avonds. Verderop in de wijk is het wel gratis, dan moet je dus wel een stukje lopen. Check prettigparkeren.nl voor de mogelijkheden.

Zaalregels
In de danszaal mogen geen buitenschoenen, zorg dus dat je schoenen bij je hebt die niet buiten worden gedragen zoals dansschoenen of dans op blote voeten of op sokken. Eten in de danszaal is ook niet toegestaan.

Van 8 mei t/m 3 juli organiseert Louise in Nijmegen Lent 10 workshops van 2,5 uur, elk met een ander thema, sommige voor beginners/begonners, sommige voor meer gevorderde dansers en een aantal voor alle niveaus. Zo komt Saskia Sportel een workshop Branle Béarnais geven, en Amber Lynn 2 workshops over de Polska. Daarnaast geeft Louise een aantal workshops, Onregelmatige walsen, de basis van de Mazurka, Poitou, Bretons, Congo en een workshop met blinddoeken.

De workshops vinden plaats op de maandagavond en duren van 19:00 tot 21:30.

Nøkkenoc bestaat uit Aina Tulier (nyckelharpa, zang) en Sylvain Pool (cister, gitaar, zang) die elkaar in Occitanië ontmoetten. Ze zorgen voor een wonderlijk samenspel van Scandinavische en Occitaanse muziek: ze laten onze voeten dansen dankzij groovy muziek met grenzeloze invloeden, een frisse smaak van Zweden en de sterke smaak van Occitaanse kaas. Op het menu staan de gebruikelijke balfolkdansen, plús rondeau, congo, branle, polska, slängpolska, halling en meer!

L’Air Inconnu is Fabien Bucher (gitaar, mandoline, zang), Dani Velasco (viool, zang) en Sylvain Pool (accordeon, gitaar, kick, zang). De band brengt ons muzikale creaties gebaseerd op hedendaagse en traditionele dans, nieuwsgierige oren, en dieren en planten, zowel wild als getemd. Hun composities en arrangementen van traditionele thema's worden geïnspireerd door emoties en sensaties tijdens de bals en festivals: het plezier van de ontmoeting, intieme poëzie, de aanstekelijkheid van muziek, lichaamsenergie en -beweging, collectieve trans, …. Wij verheugen ons immens op dit trio, dat van elk bal een fantastisch feestje weet te maken.

Ben je een nieuwe danser? Om 15:00 beginnen wij met een uurtje dansuitleg! Entree: Regulier €20, korting €15 (indien je minder te besteden hebt). Betalen kan contant of via een QR-code. Reserveren is niet nodig, er zijn altijd genoeg kaartjes beschikbaar.

Tijdens het bal is er een gezellige picknick. Neem hiervoor vooral wat lekkers mee, dan delen we dat met z'n allen. Vergeet je bordje, bestek en opscheplepels niet. Een waterfles is ook een aanrader. Neem zelf geen andere dingen mee, de bar verkoopt genoeg lekkere drankjes!

Dansen is altijd een feestje.
Dansen met live muziek is dubbel feest.
En Zweeds dansen met live muziek is wat ons betreft een nog groter feest.

Op deze zondagmiddag kun je lekker zwieren en zweven op de dansvloer met dansen zoals hambo, schottis, diverse polskor en wals.

Na een drie heerlijke middagen met muziek van Duo Noordwest in oktober en Sparv in december en een bruisende middag in februari met meer dan 10 muzikanten, is het deze keer de beurt aan de Hunebend.

De Hunebend bestaat uit Michele van Baaren en Marieke van der Hoek op viool en Joke Bakker op cello. Zij spelen prachtige Zweedse dansmuziek, traditioneel én eigen creaties, die je later thuis ook kunt beluisteren op hun CD Bortlängtan.

In het eerste deel van deze middag (ca. 3 kwartier) zullen er een aantal basispassen van verschillende Zweedse dansen worden uitgelegd. Na iedere uitleg kan deze dans dan door iedereen gedanst of verder geoefend worden.
NB. het is géén apart workshop-blok. We verweven de uitleg in het bal, zodat iedereen vanaf het begin mee kan doen.
